June Elizabeth (nee Lefler) Payne
May 10, 1940 – December 27, 2024
It is with sadness that we announce that June Elizabeth Payne, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2024. She will be greatly missed by her friend and dedicated caregiver John Stassen, her children David (Michele) of London, ON, Judy (Eric) of Victoria, BC, and Andrew (Rhea) of Piedmont, OK, USA, as well as her grandchildren Kate Kristianson, Nichelle (Scott) Reed, Justin (Adele) Burt, and great-grandchildren Reece, Jake, Preston, Avery, and Braylee.
June was predeceased by her parents, Doss and Evelyn Lefler, and her husband of 36 years, Edward "Ted" Payne. Born on May 10, 1940, in Lachine (Montreal), QC, June grew up in Simcoe, ON. She graduated from the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing, earning her RN designation, and later earned a Bachelor of Nursing from McGill University and a Master of Education from Western University.
June was an accomplished public health nurse and later retired in 1999 as the Executive Director of the Thames Valley Placement Coordination Service (TVPCS), where she drove important changes in the long-term healthcare system. She was deeply involved in her community through volunteer work and supported many organizations, including St. George’s Anglican Church and Wellspring Cancer Support. She was an avid reader, a lover of fabric arts, and a proud advocate for refugee families.
Celebration of Life: Monday, January 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. George’s Anglican Church, 227 Wharncliffe, London, ON.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada, Wellspring, Mission Services, or St. George’s Anglican Church.
