Tyson Jayse Penner

January 18, 2000 – December 20, 2024

Tyson Penner, a beloved son, grandson, brother, and friend, passed away on December 20, 2024, in his hometown of Fort Frances, Ontario. Born on January 18, 2000, Tyson was the cherished son of Marilyn Penner and Leland Indian. He is predeceased by his father Leland Indian, brother Linden Indian, and grandmother Marlene Indian.

Tyson is survived by his mom Marilyn Penner (Steve); sister Nancy (Kevin); brother Brandon Penner; brother Evan Penner; sister Paisley Held; niece Denlee Gemmell; nephews Linden and Zealand Gemmell; grandparents John and Joyce Penner; Auntie Valerie (James) and cousins Rylea, Derek, Bethany; Uncle Kim (Carla) and cousins Alyssa and Amy; as well as his adored auntie Lynn (Rueban) and cousins Joshua, Kalee, Mariah, Isaac, and Kaelin.

From an early age, Tyson’s spirit shone brightly through his love for animals and the great outdoors. An avid fisherman on Lake of the Woods, he embraced every fishing adventure with daring enthusiasm—often jokingly reminding those around him that he was “24 yaino,” a testament to both his youthful heart and fearless nature. His passion for hockey mirrored this same zest for life, whether playing or cheering from the sidelines with friends and family alike.

Tyson’s kindness knew no bounds. He had an innate ability to connect with others—always willing to lend a helping hand or give someone “the shirt off his back.” His infectious smile could light up any room, bringing joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him. As an amazing older brother to Paisley Held—and indeed all of his siblings—he took time out of each day to play with children at their level: getting down on the floor just so they could share laughter together.

Despite enduring profound loss throughout his short life—including the passing of both his father Leland and brother Linden—Tyson remained strong-willed in facing adversity head-on. The weight of grief never dimmed the brightness within him but rather fueled a deeper compassion toward others who were struggling too.

Though Tyson may have departed this world far too soon at just 24 years old, we carry forward memories filled with laughter shared over fishing trips under sunny skies or late-night hockey games where victory felt sweeter because it was experienced together. In our hearts forever remains that handsome face adorned by an unforgettable smile—a reminder that even amidst sorrow, there exists beauty worth celebrating. Mama loves you dearly, my boy—fly high among the angels where there is peace now waiting for you.

Marilyn Penner
