Wendy Caroline Orvis Porritt

December 4, 1939 – December 10, 2024

Wendy Caroline Orvis Porritt passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024. She was the cherished wife of William Richard “Bill” Porritt, proud mother of her sons, Ward and Derek, and doting grandmother to Emmett. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Alanna Nathanson, her brother David McCart, and nieces Kingsley McCart and Susan Greer. Wendy was predeceased by her brother Ian McCart. A source of strength to her family, Wendy’s legacy will live on in the lives of her loved ones, who were the light of her life.

Wendy was born on December 4, 1939, in Toronto, to Dr. Howard McCart and Helen “Hellie” Orvis McCart. She attended Whitney Public School and Bishop Strachan School, where she formed lifelong friendships. Wendy met the love of her life, Bill, while they were still in high school. After graduating, she attended teacher’s college and began her teaching career at Regal Road Elementary School in Toronto. Wendy and Bill were married on June 30, 1962.

Wendy was a passionate volunteer who dedicated her time to making a difference in her community. Her contributions included volunteering with The Junior League of Toronto, Bond Street Nursery School, the North Toronto Hockey Association (Registrar), Parent Associations at both Crescent and Trinity College Schools, and the Jean Tweed Centre. Wendy was also an avid bridge player, co-founding The Decadent Bridge Group, which began as a small gathering of women and grew to over 100 members.

Known for her legendary culinary skills, Wendy brought family and friends together for memorable meals, inspiring her son Derek’s career path. In her later years at the Dunfield Residences, Wendy joined the Executive Committee, heading the Food and Beverage Portfolio, which brought her much joy. It was here that Wendy spent her final years with Bill, forging new and cherished friendships.

A celebration of Wendy’s life will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church Deer Park. A reception will follow at the Badminton & Racquet Club.
