Roy John Rapinda
May 2, 1936 – November 29, 2024
It is with very heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Roy Rapinda on Friday, November 29, 2024, with family by his side. Born on May 2, 1936, in Kenora, Ontario, Roy was the younger son of Peter and Mary Rapinda (née Diakun). He shared a close bond with his older brother, William (Bill), cherishing family time, fishing trips, poker nights, and countless moments of laughter.
Roy was a devoted father to Wayne and Wesley, and a proud grandfather to Andrea and Michael. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Dylan, Reece, and Andrew. Roy shared his life with his late partner, Isabel Royce Rapinda, and will be deeply missed by his sister-in-law Beatrice Rapinda, niece Peggy (Pat) Stilla, nephew Wade (Elizabeth) Rapinda, and extended family and friends.
Roy was a skilled painter, using his talents throughout his career at Clara Industrial. His work included iconic projects such as painting the stacks at Great Lakes Paper and the Frog Rapids bridge in Sioux Lookout. An avid hunter and fisherman, Roy enjoyed spending time at his camp on Whitefish Lake, hosting family gatherings and annual fishing derbies that brought his loved ones together.
Predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Rapinda, brother Bill Rapinda, wife Isabel Royce Rapinda, and several close relatives, Roy’s memory will continue to live on through his family and friends. The family extends special thanks to the 4th floor team at St. Joseph’s Care Group and Dr. Bassuony for their care and compassion.
In keeping with Roy’s wishes, a private interment will be planned for Spring 2025. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Everest of Thunder Bay.
