Gerald James Rattu

15-Feb-1933 - 14-Mar-2025

Gerald (Jerry) James Rattu passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at the age of 92 at Extendicare in his beloved Haliburton County. Born in North Bay, Ontario, on February 15, 1933, Jerry was the only son of William and Pauline Rattu (née Parkard). He was raised in Haliburton County among his five sisters: Jean Wallace (predeceased), Shirley Regan, Patricia Chartrand, Marjorie Henderson, Marion, and Leslie Chartrand.

Jerry met his beloved wife, Marlene Galison, in Toronto. Together they raised six children in Oshawa, where Jerry worked at General Motors for over 37 years. In his earlier years, he also operated a small trucking business. He was a devoted husband, proud father, loving brother, uncle, grandfather to four, and great-grandfather to three.

In retirement, Jerry became an active member of the Cannington Lions Club, where he proudly served as a former President. After Marlene’s passing, Jerry shared a special companionship with Marion Briggs. Jerry’s memory lives on in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family who will cherish his warmth, dedication, and spirited sense of community.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by interment at Mount Lawn Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Minden Food Bank in Jerry’s memory.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery.
