Joan Mary Reynolds

March 24, 1929 - November 17, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Mary Reynolds (nee Manual), who passed peacefully at dawn on November 17, 2024, with her loving children by her side.

Joan was born in Toronto on March 24, 1929, to Frank and Jesse Manual (nee Neal) and was raised on Ossington Ave. with her two younger sisters, Gwendolyn and Marjorie. Joan married William Reynolds in 1952, and together they raised their family in Scarborough, Ontario.

She was a proud retiree from Bell Canada, where she was actively involved in the Union and volunteered with The Telephone Pioneers of America, supporting underprivileged communities in Toronto. The Scott Mission and the Toronto Star Children’s Wish Fund were close to her heart.

Joan cherished the simple joys of life: the sunshine on her face, crossword puzzles, a glass of red wine, and life on the water—an affinity inherited from her father’s Newfoundland roots. A voracious reader and avid bird watcher, she also loved traveling. Joan was known for her wisdom, calm demeanor, and ability to navigate life’s challenges with grace, a skill she learned from her stoic British mother.

Joan was strong, smart, and quietly resilient. She was the matriarch of a loving and welcoming home, a sanctuary where family and friends always felt embraced.

She is survived by her sister Marjorie, her five children: Peter, Michael (Shelley), Susie (Fred), Vikki (Brian), and Nancy (David); her eight grandchildren: David, John, Mat, Elizabeth, Jim, Dan, Bob, and Sam; six great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her sister Gwendolyn and her parents, Frank and Jesse Manual.

As per Joan’s wishes, a private Anglican funeral service will be held at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Bowmanville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Scott Mission would be greatly appreciated in Joan’s memory.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME.
