SHERIDAN, Richard "Dick" - Dick Sheridan has officially retired. When asked when he was going to retire, Dick would always say that they would know he had retired when his name showed up in the obituaries. After a long and courageous fight to stay on this side of life, on April 19th 2017, Richard rejoined his beautiful wife, Phyllis, who left us last April.
Dick and Phyllis were married for over 64 years and leave behind a lifetime of family and friends, whom they cherished and supported throughout their lives together.
Richard was extraordinarily proud of his six treasured children: Monica, Timothy (deceased), Paul, Patrick, Mary Lisa and Joseph, and their partners Rob, Joni, Jenny, Hans and Gino.
He adored all of his 11 precious grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren who he continuously mentored and inspired.
Dick held a special place in his heart for Carol Chapman, who has become our family's guardian angel.
Dear brother of Theresa Frechette of Markham (William, predeceased), Peter (Annette) of Ottawa and the late Christopher (Maureen of Toronto), John (Rita, predeceased) and Mary Ann Devitt (Vince, predeceased); and admired uncle of more nieces and nephews than can be listed here.
Dick had an extraordinary sense of humour, an infectious laugh, and could captivate anyone within earshot with his entertaining stories. He truly valued spending time with his many, many wonderful friends, and will be especially missed by the Thursday night dinner crew, and his "Old Men Walking" club.
For over 40 years, Dick has owned and operated a successful family business with two of his sons. He was especially proud of his achievements with CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) providing an opportunity to enhance business development in Chile, which led to both a 20 year business venture and genuine friendships in Chile.
Dick was dedicated to business development in Orillia and was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, Construction Association, Hospital Fundraising Committee and the Doctors Recruitment Committee.
Richard Sheridan was a great man who had an incredible zest for life. He lived every moment with reverence, love, charity, humility and gracious tenacity. While he will always be lovingly remembered for his strength and spirit, we will all miss him so very, very much.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mike Odlozinkski of Orillia as well as Dr. Rob ElMaraghi of the Royal Victoria Cancer Centre, for their caring and comforting of Richard throughout his heroic journey.
Following cremation the family will receive relatives and friends at the Mundell Funeral home, Orillia, Ontario on Sunday, April 23rd from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Guardian Angels, 115 West Street N., Orillia on Monday morning, April 24th at 10 o'clock. Parish Prayers to be said in the parlours on Sunday evening at 6:45pm.
If desired, the family asks that donations, in lieu of flowers be offered to the Covenent House in Toronto or the Canadian Cancer Society.
