RUSTON, Rollande Ida (nee IMBEAULT) - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rollande Ruston (née Imbeault), beloved wife of Derek; adored mother of Michele (Arun), Paul (Janet) and Marc; and beloved Nana to Luc, Marc, Camille, Noah and Thea. Rollande passed away peacefully, on July 27, 2024, in Toronto.
Born and raised into a large family in rural Quebec, Rollande took a leap of faith as a young woman, and moved to Toronto as an au pair, not knowing that this would be the start of a new life.
She learned English, fell in love and went on to build a life filled with compassion, purpose and creativity.
Gifted and determined, Rollande poured her efforts into the meticulous restoration of an old farmhouse, which became a cherished retreat. She was also a talented writer.
Her memoir, If the Rocks Could Talk, recounted her early life in the Gaspé, charming readers with its vivid storytelling and heartfelt reflections. Rollande was selfless with her time and energy for community service, supporting a wide variety of charities and providing a safe harbour for those in need.
When relaxing, Rollande enjoyed an organized home, a challenging crossword puzzle and a good read.
A Celebration of Rollande's Life will be held on Wednesday, September 18th.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
