Charles Vernell (Vern) Shreve
December 7, 1937 - December 24, 2024
Born in Buxton, Ontario, Vern was the son of the late Ervin (Erv) & Erma Shreve, and adoptive son of Charles & Mary Zebbs. He attended SS#13 Raleigh Township in North Buxton and graduated from Merlin District High School in Merlin, Ontario.
Vern’s musical talent was cultivated early, with weekly piano lessons from the Royal Conservatory of Music at ages 6-12 and saxophone lessons at ages 8-12. He played alto and tenor saxophones and was a proud member of the Chatham Police Boys Band from ages 10-16, traveling across Ontario and nearby parts of the United States. Later, he performed with Pete Traynor for several years.
Vern’s career began at All Canada Radio & Television in Toronto. He later worked with financial collection agencies before earning his Real Estate License in 1975. Vern and his partner Deanna became long-time residents of Oshawa, Ontario.
He had a deep love of music and baseball and a strong sense of justice. Vern was a 33 Degree Mason Shriner, an amazing father and confidant, and a cherished partner and friend. Known for his infectious laugh, excellent cooking, and unwavering thoughtfulness, Vern never missed a birthday or special occasion.
Vern is predeceased by his siblings, Orion, Gregory, Yvonne, and grandson Kyle. He will be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, and all who knew him.
