1936 - 2024

The family of Howard Thomas Shrimpton is saddened to announce his passing on October 17, 2024, at the age of 88. Born in Greenfield Park, QC, in 1936, Howard graduated from McGill University with an Engineering degree in 1961. His life was forever changed in 1957 when he met Beverley Scane. Married in 1962, Howard and Bev shared a lifetime of adventures, raising a family and traveling the world together.

Howard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverley, and their children: Jill MacRae (Dayle Hogg, and grandchildren Lisa, Melody, and Jeremy), Jennifer Murray (grandchildren James and Allison (Scott) Buchman and great-grandchildren Felicity and Caroline), and Ian (Belinda and grandchildren Catherine and Evelyn). He was especially proud that Ian, Catherine, and Evelyn followed in his footsteps into the engineering profession.

Howard dedicated much of his career to James F. McLaren Engineers, later founding MacViro Consultants Inc. in 1988, which took him to countries including Haiti, Malaysia, Lesotho, and Algeria. Recognized with the George Fuller Award in 1999, Howard was respected for his dedication and principles. He enjoyed golf, bridge, supporting the Montreal Canadiens, and sharing a good bottle of wine with friends.

Visitation will be held at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home (166 Main Street Markham North, Markham) on Friday, November 1, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, November 2, at 11:00 a.m.
