NIX, John Anthony - Retired French teacher and rugby coach of Midland Secondary School, passed away unexpectedly at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the age of 75. 

Beloved husband of Nancy. 

Dear father of Christopher (Jeanne).

Loving stepfather of Lisa Wilhelm (Sylvain), and Poppa to Caleb and Christian. 

Brother of Paul Nix (Sharon). 

As per John’s wishes there will be no funeral or celebration of life. A private family service has taken place.

Crawford JimCRAWFORD, Eden Hilliard James - August 9, 1936 - July 26, 2018 - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Eden Crawford in his 82nd year. Dad died peacefully with family by his side.

Loving father of Kim Peter (Grant) of Duncan, B.C. and Lisa Archbold (Steve) of Duncan, B.C.

Beloved Grampa to Victoria, Christopher, James, Matthew, Johnathan, Rebecka, Mitchel, Emily and Laura.

Brother to Norma Dawson and predeceased by his sister Eleanor Heatherington and his brother Leonard Crawford.

He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the love and care provided to our father by our cousins Sheila and Dave Kirkland. They are such a blessing in our lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday,  August 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at North Country Baptist Church, 4011 Burnside Line, Severn Twp.

Harris CherylHARRIS, Cheryl - Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday July 26, 2018 in her 73rd year.

Beloved wife of the late Hector Harris.

Loving mother of Stacy and her husband Kevin Sheard and the late Brad Harris.

Cherished grandmother of Melissa (Justin) Andrews, Matthew Harris, Andrew (Cindi) Sheard and Mason (Alayna Wright) Sheard.

Great grandmother of Lucas and Finley.

Remembered by her daughter in law Elaine Plewes and her husband Bill.

Cheryl will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A private family graveside will be held. All are welcome to a celebration of life at the home of Kevin and Stacy at 335 Warrington Rd. Stayner at 12 p.m. on Saturday July 28, 2018.

Weiler EricWEILER, Eric Bernard - At the West Parry Sound Health Centre on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at age 74. 

Beloved husband of Donna Marie Weiler (nee Foreman). 

Loving father of Scott (Julia) and Shannon (Kevin). 

Loving grandfather of Nicholas, Chloe, Marlowe and Brenner. 

Dear brother of Ann Schmidt (Larry), Gary (Maureen), Mike, Dan (Jodi), Mary and Donna Weiler.

Eric graduated from the University of Western Ontario and then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education. He taught English and then found his calling in the Guidance Department during his 23 years at Twin Lakes Secondary School in Orillia. 

He founded a career centre and adult learning centre in Barrie, where he impacted many lives, before retiring to his house in Parry Sound. 

Eric kept very active playing basketball, tennis, racket-ball, cross-country skiing, cycling, and golfing and enjoyed watching baseball and especially basketball with his grandson, Nicholas. Eric’s favourite hobby was building anything from houses to cabins and decks and he enjoyed nothing more than relaxing with a boat ride on Lake Shebeshekong with his family and friends.

A celebration of Eric’s life will be held at the Simcoe Funeral Home, Orillia on Sunday August 5th from 1-3 pm. 

Memorial donations to Childhood Cancer (childhoodcancer.ca) or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Association (cpff.ca) would be appreciated.

Smith GertrudeSMITH, Gertrude Ruth (nee Hammond) - Died peacefully on Thursday July 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood at the age of 87.

Gertrude of Collingwood, loving and devoted mother to the late Michael (2003), Wayne (Norma) and Brian (Joanne).

Cherished grandmother of Cory, Ryan, Crystal, Shanda, Jason, Justin (Maggie), Jordan, Taura, Tamara (Sid) and Samantha (Chris) and to great grandchildren Miguel, Mateo, Jade, Jackson, Joshua and Lincoln.

Gertrude is survived by her sister Grace (late Nelson Grant) and predeceased by siblings Wally, Harry (Violet) and Rose (Charlie Hewitt).

She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, especially Margaret-Ann and Charlie, her friends and neighbours.

Gertrude was a strong and loving woman who cherished her family deeply. She loved to cook, to dance and to play bingo and do crosswords. She will be deeply missed.

Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home, Wasaga Beach on Tuesday July 31, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday August 1, 2018 from 12 noon for the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1 o’clock. Reception to follow at Marlwoood Golf Club, 31 Marlwood Avenue, Wasaga Beach.

If desired, donations to Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation for Campbell House would be appreciated by her family.

Poehlman LoreenPOEHLMAN, Clara Loreen - Peacefully at the NHS - St. Catharines, on Wednesday July 25, 2018.

Loreen (Driver) of St. Catharines, in her 91st year.

Beloved wife of the late John Poehlman (2005).

Mother of Bryon (Jill) Poehlman, Craig (Diana) Poehlman, Terry (Joan) Poehlman and Sandie (Robert) O’Hearn.

Much loved  Nana of  7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Survived by sisters Muriel, Gloria, Winnifred, Esther, Chris, and brothers Arnold, Wilbert, Grant and Marshall. Predeceased by her sisters Sylvia and Sandra.

Loreen was an active member of the Thorold and West St. Catharines Seniors Centres.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday August 4th 2018 at the West St. Catharines Senior Centre, 117 Chetwood St., St. Catharines from 1:00pm until 4:00pm p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations to The Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

MARTIN, Patricia - Suddenly at her home in Barrie on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the age of 74.

Beloved wife of Jim for 54 years.

Rodrigues FatimaRODRIGUES, Fatima - Peacefully passed away at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with her daughter by her side on Wednesday July 25, 2018 at the age of 77.

Beloved wife of the late Walter Rodrigues.

Loving and devoted mother of Fatima Rodrigues and Pollyanna Burch (Blaise).

Proud and loving Vovo of Andrew, Adam, and Alex.

Always loved and dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Guests will be received at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home,  Barrie on Sunday July 29, from 2 to 5 pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place the following day, Monday July 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 65 Amelia St., in Barrie starting at 10 am. Interment will follow in Orillia.
