Ernest Singleton
1939 - December 1, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ernie Singleton on December 1, 2024, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Elsie for 62 years, Ernie was a loving father to Jacqueline (Steven) and Rebecca (Jamie). He was a cherished Grandad to Michael (Jenny), Anne-Marie (Mike), Sarah (Mathew), Brittany (Richard), Nicholas, Thomas, Rebecca (CJ), Serena, and a devoted Great Grandad to Pheonix, Azlyn, Savannah, Austin, Emerson, Payton, Charlie, Evelyn, and his extended family in British Columbia.
Born in Stockport, England, Ernie immigrated to North Vancouver, B.C., in 1962 with Elsie, where they married and began their adventure together. In 1967, the family moved to Ontario, where Ernie worked for Ontario Hydro as a welder/pipefitter for 30 years (Local 46). Ernie was also a proud member and Past Master Mason of King Solomon Lodge, 329 in Jarvis, Ontario.
Ernie’s love for fishing, especially fly fishing, defined him. He tied his own fishing flies and spent many happy days fishing for rainbow trout with his closest friends, Elwyn, Ron, and Tom, on Ontario’s riverbanks. His passion for the outdoors and storytelling lives on through his family, who often marveled at his ability to connect with anyone. Ernie loved attending the annual angler show in Toronto with his grandsons Michael and Nick, where he eagerly shared his fishing tales and expertise.
Ernie’s family will always remember his kind heart, infectious energy, and his deep love for spending time with those closest to him, especially grandson Nick.
A service to honour Ernie’s life will be held in the chapel at Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (www.heartandstroke.ca) would be greatly appreciated.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Oshawa Funeral Home.
