Uta Ingrid Sodtke

July 11, 1936 - February 14, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Uta Sodtke on Friday, February 14, 2025. She was predeceased by her father, mother, and two brothers.

Born and raised in Germany, Uta moved to Toronto, Canada in 1967, where she spent much of her life. Her artistic journey began under the influence and encouragement of her father, a fellow artist. Over the years, Uta developed a profound connection to various mediums, but it was watercolor that became her true passion. She found it both challenging and deeply rewarding, allowing her to express her creativity in bold and beautiful ways.

Uta’s paintings, which often feature vibrant flowers and the lush landscapes of rolling hills and forest vegetation, were inspired by her many travels, particularly to Jamaica. Her love for Montego Bay led her to spend much of her time there, where she captured the warmth and beauty of the island with her paintbrush. Her works—showcasing scenes of banana, coconut, and palm trees, as well as colorful flowers—became cherished by both locals and tourists alike. Through her art, Uta brought the vibrant spirit of Jamaica to life in stunning hues.

A proud member of the Central Ontario Art Association, Uta was also a signature member of the Toronto Watercolor Society. She was a founding member of the Group of Ten Artists' Gallery in Toronto and exhibited her works widely. Throughout her career, she earned numerous awards and accolades for her exceptional talent.

Uta’s art has touched the lives of many, and her works are collected internationally across Europe, the Caribbean, and North America. While her strong and vibrant personality may no longer be with us, her extraordinary art will continue to inspire and be treasured for generations to come.
