Geraldine Karen Spence

1940 - December 27, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Geraldine Karen Spence (née Corsie) on December 27, 2024, at Rainycrest Home for the Aged, at the age of 84. Born in 1940, Geraldine’s early life was marked by a strong sense of dedication and compassion. She graduated from McKellar Hospital School of Nursing in 1962 and spent two years as a nurse in Winnipeg before moving to Fort Frances in 1964, where she made her home for the remainder of her life.

In 1962, Geraldine married the love of her life, John (Jock) Spence. They were a devoted couple who shared many happy years together, including time spent at their beloved cabin on Rainy Lake. John predeceased her on November 17, 2024, just weeks before Geraldine’s passing. Together they raised four sons: Shawn (Joanne), Tim (Sandy), Craig, and Chris (Debora). Geraldine and Jock shared a beautiful life, often enjoying travelling, making memories at the cabin and living a life rich with love, laughter, and mutual respect. Above all, she treasured her family, and her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her great joy.

After raising her children, Geraldine pursued further education and earned a Social Work degree from Lakehead University. She found great fulfillment in her work with children and dedicated herself to making a positive impact in the lives of those she served. Geraldine had many interests, including sewing, drawing, and crafting. She was also an active member of a “stick group” that met regularly, where she enjoyed both socializing and staying active. She had a passion for creativity and connection, and her presence will be sorely missed by those who knew her.

Geraldine was predeceased by her husband, John (Jock) Spence, as well as her parents, Thomas and Maude Corsie, and her brothers, Ty, Bob, and Doug Corsie. She is survived by her brother, Allan Corsie, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Geraldine’s family was her greatest joy, and her love and legacy will live on in her grandchildren: Jennifer (Tyler) Stevenson, Alyssa Spence (Corey Ouellette), Brittainy (Jason) Vanin, Brayden (Shelby) Spence, Cassidy Spence, Matthew Spence (Callie), Torrie Spence, Erika Spence, and Jack Spence, along with six great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of Geraldine’s life will be held at a later date with her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Geraldine’s memory.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Northridge Funeral Home.
