It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce Davey Sproule on November 25, 2024, at the age of 96. Bruce leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and remarkable accomplishments.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Fay Alice Yvonne, Bruce was a loving father to Mark Sproule (Myrtle) of Calgary, Wendy Stack (Tim) of Oakville, and Kimberley of Mississauga. He was a proud grandfather to Rory, Shannon (Andrew), Jacqueline (Arthur), Laura, Connor (Sierra), Maeve, and Helen (James), and a cherished great-grandad to Lyla and Cole. Bruce was also predeceased by his brother Robert (Gwen Sproule), sister Madelon (Don MacLeod), and sister-in-law Viki Prystawski (Walter).
Born in Toronto, Bruce attended Parkdale Collegiate and began his career as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse near Orangeville. He later dedicated over 35 years to Ontario Hydro as an executive in human resources and labor relations, forming many lifelong friendships.
Bruce was a gifted athlete, playing and coaching basketball and badminton. He was an ardent supporter of the arts, a talented pianist, and an avid reader. Known for his storytelling, Bruce was often found sharing compelling tales at family gatherings. His hobbies included black-and-white photography, genealogy, stamp collecting, and exploring history. As an extensive world traveler, he cherished visits to Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Thailand, and across Canada.
Among Bruce’s many lifetime achievements were receiving the prestigious Arbor Award for service to the University of Toronto, serving as President of the Associates of Erindale College, and dedicating 25 years to the Canadian Mental Health Association. He was also a board committee member of the Board of Stewards at Erindale United Church. With his wife Fay, he built their family home from the ground up.
