Portrait of Joyce Matilda Stewart

Joyce Matilda Stewart

Passed Away in 2024

Joyce Matilda Stewart passed away peacefully in her Fort Erie home after a long and fulfilling life. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, and friend whose deep faith in God guided her every day. A dedicated member of St. Michael’s Church in Fort Erie, Joyce’s kindness, warmth, and beauty—both inside and out—touched everyone she met.

Joyce was born on a dairy farm in Franklinville, New York, and grew up in Buffalo, New York, with her predeceased sisters Doris Allen (Sister Mary Dolorosa, RSM), Phyllis (Tom) Riboldazzi, Norma Garguilo (Bernie) Lombard, and Grace (Tom) Brucato. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Doris (Pitcher) Allen.

Widowed three times, Joyce was predeceased by James Louis World, Leonard Weigand, and Ronald Manson Stewart. She was a proud and loving mother to Dianne (Issam) Saab and James (Sunate) World, and the cherished grandmother of Timothy and Erika World. She was also a beloved aunt and grand-aunt to many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

A graduate of Fosdick Masten High School, Joyce worked as a bookkeeper for Fantasheer and later for the University at Buffalo in custodial services until her retirement. She was known for her compassion, her deep faith, and her ability to listen and share meaningful stories with those she loved.

A memorial service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 12 noon at St. Michael’s Church in Fort Erie, followed by a luncheon at The Barrell Restaurant, 224 Garrison Road, Fort Erie. Burial will take place on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Resthaven Cemetery, North Tonawanda, New York.

In memory of Joyce, contributions can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family will cherish all the memories and love she shared with everyone.
