James Dennis Stephen Thorogood
May 24, 1946 - October 16, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Dennis Stephen Thorogood, known to all as Jim, who left us on the evening of October 16, 2024, at the age of 78, surrounded by his loving wife Islay and family. Jim faced a brief but courageous battle with cancer, demonstrating strength and grace until the very end.

Born on May 24, 1946, in Toronto, Jim was the youngest of six siblings. A proud graduate of the University of Toronto, he was a professional mechanical engineer who made significant contributions in his field.

Jim was especially proud of his children Stacey (George) Thorogood, Carol Thorogood, Amy (Terry) Ferguson, and Christopher Thorogood, as well as his granddaughters Sarah, Erin, Jaclyn, and Sydney. Known for his love of cracking a good dad joke, he brought joy and laughter to those around him.

A passionate lover of sports and theatre, Jim enjoyed golfing with friends and line dancing with Islay. He found great joy in walks through nature and time spent at his Muskoka cottage, where he loved boating and sharing ice cream with family. A loyal Jeopardy fan, Jim and Islay shared many evenings playing along together.

He will be profoundly missed by Islay, his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
