Bawden JamesBAWDEN, James Edward Albert - Passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Toronto General Hospital.

Jim was born, raised and spent most of his life in Toronto. He attended Withrow Avenue Public School, Riverdale Collegiate Institute and the University of Toronto.

He also earned degrees at Waterloo Lutheran University and Carleton University.

Jim was a lifelong movie and TV fan and he always felt very lucky to have been able to turn his passion into his career. He worked for over 40 years as a TV critic and columnist at the Globe and Mail, the Hamilton Spectator and the Toronto Star.

He also wrote about movies and TV for publications like TV Guide, Films in Review, Classic Images and Film Fan Monthly. He was especially well-known for his profiles of movie stars and directors.

After retiring in 2008, Jim continued his interest in television by writing a blog. He also co-authored 3 books about his conversations with famous movie and TV stars. During retirement he also developed an interest in baseball and became a Toronto Blue Jays fan.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Maisie and Russell "Jim" Bawden. He will be missed by his surviving family: his brother Harry (Martha), niece Jennifer (Greg), nephew Michael and great-nephew Jamie Davies.

Visitation will be held at the Heritage Funeral Centre, Toronto on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 1 pm. A memorial service will follow at 2 pm. Friends and family are welcome to attend. All guests must pre-register online.

Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
