SMITH, William Douglas (Doug)  -  Died peacefully, March 10, 2021, after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease.

Beloved husband of Kathleen (Jeannie) Smith.

Dear father to Jim (predeceased) (Elly), Darryl, and Lesa Monique.

Proud Grampy of Sierra, Logan, and Monique.

He was one of thirteen children and will be sadly missed by surviving sisters, Beverley and Doreen, and brother, Allan (Marlene), along with many nieces and nephews.

Doug grew up in Montreal and moved to Toronto in the 1950s, where he began work in construction.

He was then a longtime employee of The Toronto Star and, for some time in retirement, the chattiest of door greeters at Zellers and a crossing guard at a local school in East York, always decked out in his Montreal Canadiens gear. He was a 44-year friend of Bill W.

Thank you to the palliative care staff at Michael Garron Hospital for the comfort and care they offered Doug in his final days. There will be no service.

To celebrate Doug's life, we invite you to listen to a Johnny Cash song and, since Doug was the ultimate storyteller.

If so inclined, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, https://alzheimer.ca/en/ take-action/donate.
