Foley EllenFOLEY, Ellen (McCue) - Of Toronto, Ontario (formerly living in Goderich, Ontario 1985 – 2006) passed away suddenly on Friday July 16, 2021.

She had been a resident of The Nesbit Lodge in Toronto at the time of her death. She was in her 94th year and died due to heart failure.

Ellen was born in Melancthon, Ontario in December 1926 to Michael McCue and Hazel Barrett. She is predeceased by her siblings: Molly Sutton, Gertrude MacDonald, Edward McCue and John McCue.

Ellen completed her high school education in Shelburne, Ontario. She then enrolled in the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Toronto graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital for many years. After moving from the downtown area of Toronto to Etobicoke, she worked at Humber Memorial Hospital and then ended her career at West Park Hospital. She retired from nursing in the late 1970’s and went back to school. In 1982, she successfully graduated from Humber College in the Social Services Program.

Ellen married Michael J. Foley (recently immigrated from Ireland) in December 1950. They were happily married for 55 years until Michael’s sudden death in December 2005. Together they lovingly raised four children. Mary Catherine (deceased 2017) married to Phil Hudakoc. Eileen married to Eugene Jung. John (deceased 1978). Agnes married to Sandy Schaefer.

Ellen will be sadly missed as she leaves behind six grandchildren, Nicole, Courtney, Paul Michael, Amanda, Chelsea, and Sean. As well, she had five great-grandchildren, Payton, Parker, Addison, Everett and Vaida. She will be fondly remembered by her cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends.

Ellen was a loving wife, a dedicated mother and a caring friend to many. She was an avid reader, a talented seamstress and enjoyed playing cards, as well as a devoted Toronto Blue Jay fan. She was a life-long learner and successfully took up playing bridge in her 80’s. She also enjoyed travelling the world to such places as Australia, New Zealand, the British Isles and the Arctic.

Arrangements are entrusted with Rosar-Morrison funeral home. Cremation has taken place and a private family funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anselm Church on August 3 with interment following the service at Mount Peace cemetery in Mississauga.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Toronto Public Library Foundation, the Canadian Wildlife Foundation or a charity of your choice.
