Sarah Wakeford
March 3, 1950 - January 4, 2025
Forever in our Hearts.
Sarah Jean Wakeford (nee Parkinson) passed away peacefully at Winbourne Park Long Term Care Home in Ajax, Ontario, on January 4, 2025, with her husband Ron by her side. Sarah was the loving wife of Ron Wakeford for 51 years. She was a dear sister to Ted (Patty), Jeff (Cathy), and Jen (Marianne). Sister-in-law of Joanne (Bob), Diana (Jamie), and beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews in Alberta and Ontario.
Born in Cobourg, Ontario, to parents Shirley and Herb on March 3, 1950, she was a little sister to Ted and a big sister when Jeff and Jen joined the family. Her childhood included several moves due to her father's work, ultimately settling in Oakville, Ontario. Sarah pursued her dream of becoming a nurse by joining the Oshawa General Hospital Nursing Program, where she met Ron Wakeford. After graduating in 1972, she began her nursing career at Humber River Hospital in Toronto. In 1973, Sarah and Ron married and shared a loving 51-year journey filled with travel, time at the Wollaston Lake family cottage, and companionship with their beloved dog, Heidi.
Sarah’s calling was her work in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit at Oshawa General Hospital, where she served with compassion and humor for 24 years. Her sharp wit earned her the nickname "Sassy." Sarah retired after a fulfilling career, leaving behind countless cherished relationships.
In her final years, Sarah was lovingly cared for by her husband Ron. Their bond was unwavering, and he remained by her side until her passing. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Zubera Bhatti and the staff of Winbourne Park Long Term Care Home for their dedicated care and compassion.
Sarah’s legacy of love and kindness lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest easy, Sassy.
