Daniel Francis Walsh
March 31, 1947 - April 9, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we announce the passing of Daniel Francis Walsh, who left us on April 9, 2025, at the age of 78, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Born in Plate Cove, Newfoundland, Daniel was one of many children in a hardworking family. He was predeceased by his parents, Bridget and Peter Walsh, and by siblings Aloysius (“Wish”), Peter, and Johanna. He is survived by siblings John, William, Alaphonsus (“Phonse”), Martha (now Martha Ryan), Anne (now Anne Philpott), Charlie, and brothers-in-law Kevin Foley, Paddy Ryan, Brian Rieck, and James Rieck. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who will remember him with love.
Daniel’s first job was as a cook at the American Air Force Base in Goose Bay, Labrador, where he worked for three years before moving to Ontario. He spent most of his working life as a truck driver, including many years with Zehrs, Loblaws, and Knectal’s, earning respect for his dedication and reliability. In his later years, he drove a school bus for six years, enjoying the simple routine and connection with the kids.
He was married to Janice Walsh for over 50 years, and together they raised two sons—Adam and Scott Walsh. Though separated in later years, Daniel and Janice remained on respectful and caring terms, bonded by shared family and history.
Later in life, Daniel reconnected with Doreen Bell, a woman from his younger days who became a deeply devoted companion. Doreen stood by his side every day throughout his illness, offering unwavering care, love, and comfort. Their bond was a powerful reminder that love can come full circle—and that it’s never too late to open your heart.
Daniel will be remembered as a quiet, dependable man who showed his love not through words, but through action. Whether as a father, brother, or friend, he had a steady presence and a genuine heart that left a mark on those who knew him. Rest easy, Dad. You lived life your own way—and we’ll carry your strength with us, always.
At Daniel’s request, there will be no service at this time. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Chapman House Hospice (Residential Hospice Grey Bruce) would be greatly appreciated.
