Thelma Lillian Werner

January 16, 1936 - April 16, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma Lillian Werner (née Benson), who passed away on April 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on January 16, 1936, Thelma lived a life full of love, dedication, and kindness that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She was the cherished wife of Lloyd Werner, who predeceased her. Together, they raised a family and created memories that will be treasured by their children: Wanda Wilson (Bruce Wilson, deceased), Sandra Werner (deceased), Rozalyn Werner-Arcé (Pedro Arcé), and Jeff Werner (Connie Zieren). Her steadfast love and guidance shaped their lives in immeasurable ways.

Thelma also adored her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren—Amanda (deceased), Christa, Jo Anna, Jacob, Josh, Tim, and Jamie—were the lights of her life, and her great-grandchildren—Chase, Cole, and Cecilia—brought her great joy. She reveled in their successes and celebrated their milestones.

She was the beloved older sister to Joan Benson (deceased) and Jim Benson. Thelma enjoyed her career at the Peel Board of Education, making many friends over the years. She especially loved her time as the front desk secretary at Erindale Secondary School.

A deeply spiritual woman, Thelma found great fulfillment in becoming trained as a Stephen Minister, a lay congregation member offering compassionate care to those facing crisis or life difficulties.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Extendicare Mississauga for their kindness and care over the six years Thelma was a resident.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at White Oak Presbyterian Church, 6945 Meadowvale Town Centre Circle, Mississauga.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Thelma’s memory.

Thelma will be deeply missed but forever celebrated. Rest peacefully, Mom. Your love and light endure.
