Donald Geoffrey Wick
August 28, 1935 - October 23, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Donald (Don) Wick at the age of 89 on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
Born in Toronto, Don moved to Brooklin with his family in 1946. He founded Wick Printing, which published The Brooklin Bulletin newspaper in 1959 and 1960. This company evolved into the family-run sign business now based in Whitby. Don was also the visionary behind a chain of seven video rental stores, The Video Image and Video Superstore, serving Durham Region and Kawartha Lakes, notably in Brooklin, for over two decades.
Don and his beloved wife of 66 years, Aldine (Steele) Wick, from Bobcaygeon, built their life together in the Meadowcrest subdivision in 1958, later moving to Way Street in 1971 to accommodate their growing family.
He leaves behind four sons: Neil of Gatineau, QC; Keith (Shirley) of Whitby; Brian (Mary) of Whitby; and Dale (Jillian) of Brooklin, as well as two cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey and Brooke. Don is predeceased by his sister Fern of Whitby and his brother Frank of Ajax, and is remembered lovingly by his sister Daphne of Scarborough, and his brothers Marshall of North Carolina and Gordon of Oshawa, along with many nieces and nephews.
An avid gardener and proud member of the Brooklin Whitby Garden Club, Don served as a past president of the Brooklin Agricultural Society and contributed to expanding the Brooklin Spring Fair from two to four days in 1976-1977.
