Smiling man with sunglasses and light shirtWIERSMAN, Ronald Kenneth Wiersma  -
March 17, 1958 - June 28, 2024.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ronald Kenneth Wiersma, who passed in his sleep in Naples, Florida. Loving husband to Susan Wiersma.

Dedicated father to Julia (Shane), Andrew (Sam), and Michael (Stacy). Predeceased by his parents Rense and Liskje Wiersma. Brother to Pieter (Anne), Art (Mary), Christina (Albert), Bill (Wendy), Maynard (Elena), Nancy (Ted), Doug (Lori) and Rob (Rhonda). Uncle Ron to many “favourite nieces” and “favourite nephews”.

Survived by his grandchildren Logan and Kaley.

Ron was born in Oshawa on March 17, 1958; the sixth of nine children. Growing up, he stood out as a youth soccer star, often being scouted by competitive soccer clubs. He also evolved into the star striker on his College Men’s Team.

Ron decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and pursued a career as a tradesmen. He went on to proudly spend his entire four-decade career as an electrician at General Motors Oshawa.

Ron was a devoted father. He was heavily involved in his children’s sporting events, assisting with their hockey teams, and emphasizing his role as an incredibly passionate head coach of their soccer teams.

In his later years, he became an avid world traveler, often venturing to exotic destinations with his wife, Sue. When he wasn’t traveling, he spent his time doing the things he loved: golfing with his friends and family, cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Buffalo Bills, the Pittsburg Steelers and of course, the National Dutch soccer team.

He also enjoyed playing his favourite games of strategy such as Chess, Cribbage and Euchre, and took pride in maintaining his dream
property in Colborne. He loved his dogs, Eddie and Molly, who kept him company in his retirement.

Ron’s number one priority in life was his family.

He loved nothing more than to support his family and friends. He was always just a call away, eager to help in any way he could. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family, having left this world far too soon.

A memorial service will be held at Faith United Church (Courtice, Ontario) on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 1:00pm with visitation at 12:00pm.

If desired donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
