WILE,Ira Byron WileWILE, Ira Byron Wile -  It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Ira Byron Wile. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family and love, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the age of 90.

Ira spent his entire life working hard, starting on his family’s farm in New Ross, Nova Scotia before setting out for an adventure being a crew member on cargo ships running through the Great Lakes.

He later worked for the Metro Toronto Police as a maintenance worker, before retiring in 1989. Retirement didn’t stop Ira from keeping busy and he soon found great enjoyment in the Colborne Legion where he was an active member for many years including Branch President for 2 terms. He was also Zone F2 Veterans Service Officer and has many awards for his Legion service.

Ira was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He opened up his arms to many with great patience and compassion. He was always active and loved to be involved in the community. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, billiards, puzzles and was an avid walker, walking upwards of 5 kms a day up into his 80s. Dear son of the late Arnold and Nellie Wile and brother of Grant (Gwen), Royce (Mary) and Randolf (Lynne).

He will be profoundly missed by his wife of 34 years, Faye.

Family meant everything to Ira and he took great pride in not only his own children but all of his extended family, no matter the relation. His family’s wellbeing was always at the forefront of everything that he did. He instilled great values about integrity, compassion, patience and the importance of hard work to all of his children. Ira was a proud father to his 4 children Wendy, Arnold, Tim (Jo-Ann) and Rhonda (Kenny). He opened his arms to his stepchildren, Perry (Dale), Glynn (Brenda), Yvonne, Steven (Julia), Sandra (Darryl) and Laura (Al).

Grandfather to Raymond (Ash Leigh), Matthew, Carina (Stefano), Ashley (David), Hannah (Joey), Autumn, Alan, Riley, Paige and Madelyn. Great grandfather to Barry, Clark, Pania, Freya, Awhina, Hakaraia, Taylor, Mason and Kamara. Predeceased by his sister Joyce, son-in-law Brian Howse, and stepson Perry Comeau. To say that he will be greatly missed is achingly true to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

For those wishing to join us in the celebration of Ira’s life, we will be gathering at MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME & CEMETERY, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby on Tuesday, June 25th. Visitation will start at 11am followed immediately by a memorial service, interment and reception. We look forward to gathering and sharing wonderful stories and memories of Ira.

If desired, memorial donations to The Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
