Elderly man in suit with red tie seated.George Lawrence (Nazareno Innocenzo George) Xuereb
May 22, 1939 – October 29, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Lawrence Xuereb on October 29, 2024, at the age of 85. Born in Qormi, Malta, George was the cherished son of Joseph and Josephine (née Zarb) Xuereb. Surrounded by family, George passed peacefully following a brief battle with cancer.

George shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Hilda (née Palmer), with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, Jean (Sean), Michael, and George (Darl). A devoted grandfather to Rachel (Guelord) and a proud great-grandfather to Desire and Wanangwa, he was deeply loved by his family.

After emigrating from Malta to Toronto at the age of 19, George excelled academically, earning top honors as a Chartered Accountant. He had a distinguished career as a Chartered Accountant and Tax Expert, mentoring many in the field and proudly promoting Maltese-Canadian culture. He was a longstanding president of the Melita Soccer Club and a founding member of the Fest of St. George Association, both causes close to his heart.

George was known for his philanthropic spirit, giving generously to numerous charities and supporting children in developing countries. His kindness, faith, and dedication to his community will be remembered by all who knew him.

The family invites visitors to honor George’s memory by wearing red, in celebration of his devotion to St. George. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Hearing Society, Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, ShareLife, SickKids Foundation, or the United Way of Northern New Jersey would be appreciated.
