YANO, Misao "Missy" (nee Arai)
November 8, 1930 – June 25, 2024
Missy died after a long battle with cancer, with only short periods of discomfort. She was predeceased by her parents, Kozo and Tomeko; her sister, Meiko; husband, Fred; and brother, Kazuo (Kaz). She is survived by her siblings: brother, Yoshio; sisters, Fumiko, Shizuko, and Yukiko; and sons, David and John.
Missy was born in Vancouver and settled in Toronto after living in various places in BC and ON. Missy had a long and varied career, retiring from Real Estate at 90, after 49 years in the business. She previously was a school teacher, chemist, Canadian Naval Officer, and pursued other interests. She was proud to be one of the first women on a moving Canadian Naval vessel after much effort on her part to make it happen. She enjoyed volunteering with Zonta International and other organizations.
Missy and family would like to express their thanks to her physician, Dr. Stephanie Klein, and the healthcare teams at North York General Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital. Missy was grateful for all the support from friends and family.
No funeral will be held. A Celebration of Life will be arranged in the future. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. Missy supported a wide array of charities with an emphasis on helping women and healthcare.
