Bernard Yaroff
June 22, 1929 – December 21, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved dad, Bernard Yaroff, on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the remarkable age of 95. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, on June 22, 1929, to Dimitros (Michael) and Ksenia Yarosko, Bernie (Bronyslow) was the youngest sibling of Olga Motkaluk (predeceased) and Anthony Groch (predeceased).
Bernie was an avid sports fan, a dedicated football player, and a lifelong supporter of the Hamilton Tiger Cats. A musician, dancer, and singer, he remained deeply connected to his Ukrainian heritage, which led him to meet the love of his life and future bride, Anne (Demchyshyn). The couple shared many years of partnership in both dance and life, marrying during Hurricane Hazel on October 16, 1954.
Together, they moved to Ajax, Ontario, where Bernie began his career with CMHC as an appraiser. Later, they designed and built their lifelong home in Whitby, where they raised their three children, Mark, Greg, and Tammy. They lived at 121 Raglan Street for 60 years before transitioning to Harmony Hills Retirement Home when Anne was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
After retiring from CMHC, Bernie continued to explore his Ukrainian roots by traveling as a tour guide. He and Anne later enjoyed adventures around the world, as well as playing side by side in the Toronto Mandolin Orchestra. A devoted family man and loyal friend, Bernie cherished good celebrations, most recently marking his 95th birthday surrounded by lifelong friends.
After a brief stay in the hospital, Bernie joined Anne, who passed in 2022, to spend eternity together again for Christmas. He is survived by his children, Mark (Diana), Greg (Sandra), and Tammy (Steve); his grandchildren, Candice (Dave), Brittney (Freddy), Jesse, Paige, Ashley, Holly (Luke), Brady (Laura), Nicole (Trent), and Ryan; and his great-grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, Nolan, Mason, Maverick, Tavely, Ellie, Talon, Clay, and Cali.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shevchenko Musical Ensemble would be greatly appreciated in honor of Bernie’s love and dedication to his culture and music.
