Mary Margaret Young (Marie Young, née Macken)
August 17, 1945 - November 17, 2024
It is with broken hearts and gratitude for her remarkable life that we announce the passing of Marie Young (née Macken) on November 17, 2024, at the age of 79. Marie passed peacefully at home after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Marie was a devoted wife to Ray, loving mother to Kirk (Sue) and Kimberly (John), and proud grandmother to Kiara (Steve), Akaysha (David), Daniel (Jessica), Carling (Michael), Karson (Dylan), Raine, and Emmett. She was a cherished GG to Savannah, Zoey, Mason, and Anakin. Marie's love also extended to her siblings—late Rose (Wally), late Barney (Gloria), late Tom, Dina (George), Sheila (Mike), late Vera (Eli), Phyllis (Giovanni), John (Lynn), Dolores (Omar)—and her countless nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved deeply.
Marie was not only a pillar of her own family but a second mother and Nana to many who were bound to her by love rather than blood. To all of you—and especially Kelly Sgroi, her self-proclaimed favorite—you know how deeply she cherished each of you. Even her furry, four-legged "grandchildren" held a special place in her heart.
Born and raised in Ireland, Marie carried the warmth and resilience of her homeland throughout her life. She found solace and joy in her family's cherished retreat at Sand Banks in Prince Edward County, a place of summer memories and lifelong friendships since 1967. Marie’s kindness, strength, and humor will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
A passionate Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Marie’s infectious spirit and unwavering loyalty to her team were well-known. Her legacy of love, protection, and dedication will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were touched by her remarkable life.
