Antoinette (Nettie) Yuen
September 19, 1962 – February 24, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Antoinette (Nettie) Yuen on February 24, 2025. She was deeply loved by her partner, Sean Figueroa; her sister, Michele Yuen-McDonald (Scott); and her nephews, Alex and James McDonald. Nettie was beloved by all who knew her.
Nettie grew up in Ajax, Ontario, and was raised with love by her mother, Bernadette, after losing her father, Gregory, to cancer at a young age. Surrounded by the care of her grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins, she attended St. Bernadette's Catholic School, where she won the Religion Award in grade 8, and later Ajax High School.
A graduate of York University, Class of 1985, Nettie formed lifelong friendships with Emilio, Peter, PK, Solomon, and Sue, the latter of whom was her true guardian angel during her illness. At York, she also discovered her passion for competitive figure skating, leading her team to an OWIAA Final in 1984. Always on the lookout for “some good ice,” she kept her skates in the trunk of her car and lovingly taught her nephews how to skate.
Music, especially piano, was another of Nettie’s great passions. She was always eager to sit down and play at family gatherings, turning this love into a successful career selling Yamaha pianos. She also worked for Confederation Life, Manulife, and CIBC.
Nettie’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Michael Garron Hospital, especially Dr. Andrew, nurse Maricris, and the entire palliative care unit.
