Frances Elizabeth Zawerucha
Passed Away: November 23, 2024
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Frances (Fran/Franny) Elizabeth Zawerucha, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on November 23, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Care Group in Thunder Bay.
Born in Fort William, Fran spent her life in Ignace, Ontario, where she met her late husband, Mirvin, and raised her children. She worked at various places, including the YMCA, The Voyager, The Bay/Northern Store, and Ricci’s Trucking, leaving a positive impact on everyone she encountered. In her retirement, Fran found joy in her garden, decorating for holidays, and staying active in her community through the Legion, The Lions, Silver Tops, and Northern Critters.
Fran will be forever missed by her daughters Melanie Zawerucha, Janice Zawerucha (Adam), Tracy Nicholls (Terry), her grandchildren Jeff Nicholls (Jen), great-granddaughters Emily and Maddie Nicholls, and her “sweet boy,” grandson Simon Zawerucha, with whom she shared a special bond. Cherished memories remain with her “little brother” John Davis, her sister Georgina Davis-Dmitriew, niece Kaitlyn Taylor-Mitchell, and dear friends Dot Cooney, Joanne Armstrong, and neighbor Bob Boose. She was predeceased by her husband Mirvin, sons Allan and Calvin, and her mother, Georgina Davis.
Fran’s light, laughter, generosity, and courage will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone who knew her. Special thanks to Scott and Mandy Coppin, Bob Boose, and the compassionate care teams at Thunder Bay Regional and St. Joseph’s.
As per Fran’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northern Critters in Need by e-transfer to ncinrescue@gmail.com or by mail to Box 1023, Ignace, ON P0T 1T0.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Sargent and Son Funeral Directors.
