Richard Berthelot

May 29, 1949 – December 3, 2024

BERTHELOT, Richard
Richard Berthelot, of Clayton, Ontario, passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on December 3, 2024, at the age of 75, after an ATV accident resulting in a severe head injury. His last hours were spent in the company of his family, who held his hand through this transition.

He is survived by his wife Margot, his children Tanya Berthelot, Josée Clément (husband David), and Lucas; his grandchildren Joël Clément (wife Avery) and Danika Clément; and his brothers and sisters Gerry, Paulette “Fille de la Sagesse,” Joseph (wife Lise), and Gaston (wife Pauline). Richard, being the youngest of thirteen children, had many nieces and nephews as well as a surviving sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pauline Berthelot and David Armstrong.

He is predeceased by his parents Joseph Berthelot and Dorinda Berthelot (née Quenneville); his siblings Adélard Berthelot, Gilberte Serré, Marguerite “Margot” Lanois, Marthe Bélanger, Ulric “Rickie” Berthelot, Jacques Berthelot, Guy Berthelot, and Gisèle Armstrong; and his loving first wife, Gracia Lemire, mother to his three children.

Richard lived ‘larger than life,’ and his exit, although accidental, was keeping with his style. He spent his last day outside, with his dear friend Scotty, knocking down a tree and sitting around a big bonfire sipping rye and Pepsi, as nature unfolded around them. Richard’s life ended suddenly and unexpectedly, but we are grateful that he did not suffer.

Richard was ‘on loan to us.’ We feel eternally blessed to have experienced life in his presence.

A Celebration of Life will be held for him in the Spring, when the strawberries ripen.

Persons wishing to make donations in his memory may give to the Civic Hospital of Ontario, which lovingly cradled him in his last hours. We are grateful to his intensive care nurses – Yousef and Mike – who were exemplary in their vigil over him in his last hours.

Dad – We will forever miss you! Je t’aime le plus, I love you more, Te quiero más!!!
