JACKSON, Doris Fern (nee Anthes) - (1930 - 2020) - It is with the heaviest of hearts, that we announce the passing of Doris Fern Jackson (nee Anthes) peacefully at Trillium Health Partners on December 26, 2020.
Doris was predeceased by her loving husband, Clifford (Cliff), of 57 years, her siblings Lester, Dale and Glenna and her nephew Havens.
She is survived, and will be greatly missed, by her son Gregory (Roseann), her daughter Patricia, her grandchildren Dale (Janine), Doug (Brittney) and Cassandra (Adam), her great grandchildren Aubrey, Nora and William, and her many nieces and nephews.
Born on February 28, 1930 at Cedar Bay in Humberstone Township to Elmer and Fern Anthes, Doris was the youngest of 4 children by 10 years. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and promptly found her calling as a teacher, when she began her teaching career in a country school in Niagara Region.
She married the love of her life, Cliff, on December 1, 1951 and soon moved to Hamilton where she started her family and joined the Faculty of Strathallan Private School. In 1960, she moved with her young family to Etobicoke, where she taught with the Etobicoke School Board until she retired to their summer home on Kiowana Beach in Meaford, Ontario on Georgian Bay.
Doris was an avid sports fan who passionately followed the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, and Argonauts, later including Raptors and the Toronto FC in her repertoire. She spent much of her retirement at the cottage on Kiowana Beach and their winter home in Largo, Florida, golfing, playing tennis, fishing, boating and swimming with her husband and friends.
A bright, articulate and intelligent lady, Doris enjoyed playing cards, a family pastime that began in her childhood, and was a force to be reckoned with when it came to games of trivia and general knowledge. Her other pastimes included gardening, feeding and watching the birds, and painting, the latter of which she expanded to painting landscapes on rocks and sand dollars collected around the cottage and the beaches at Fort Desoto, Flordia, respectively.
She loved spending time with family and loved her son and daughter deeply. She was always eager to tell them and others of how proud she was of them and all they accomplished. She was so proud of her grandson, Doug, when he joined the Armed Forces and she proudly attended his induction ceremony at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, in Quebec. She was equally proud of his brother Dale when he took on an important role with his father’s company. When her granddaughter, Cassandra, chose to follow in her footsteps and pursue a career in teaching, she was front and centre at her graduations from both York and UOIT. She was always eager to hear from Cassandra and talk about her day at work, offering guidance and advice when asked.
She touched the lives of so many, who will miss her deeply and forever cherish their memories of her.
Arrangements are entrusted with Ridley funeral home, Etobicoke. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, when friends and family are once again able to gather.
