CULLY, Marilyn Jean Cully - December 26, 1939 – September 26, 2024
It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Marilyn Cully, in her 85th year, after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Beloved mother of Heather (Dwayne) Scott, and Doug (Chandana) Cook. Loving sister of Marsha (Jim) Harvey and Bill Cully and caring sister-in-law to Alma Beaton and Lucille Bell. She was the proud grandmother to Carling and Cody and step-grandmother to Ved and Veer.
Marilyn was a teacher at Parkview Public School in Unionville, from 1975 to 1996, known then as Mrs. Cook. She was a thoughtful and caring teacher who took pride in her work and celebrated the achievements of her students. Marilyn made many wonderful friends during her years at Parkview and continued to enjoy these friendships long after retirement through travelling partners, Friday night Valhalla dinners, and various reunion gatherings.
Marilyn’s kindness endeared her to so many people throughout her lifetime and she truly treasured every one of her friends and caregivers who came into her life.
In retirement, Marilyn loved to be involved in her grandchildren’s lives. She volunteered in their classrooms doing the “little books” reading program. As a proud grandma she enjoyed cheering on Carli at her cheerleading competitions and Cody at his hockey games. She never missed an event. In the off-season you could find Marilyn in her bunkie behind the cottage on Gull Lake either napping or snuggled up watching an old movie with the kids.
Marilyn’s greatest passion was genealogy research. She spent many years sleuthing through archives and cemeteries and ancestry sites trying to uncover the mysteries of family history. Through her hard work she met many great people and also helped some discover their long-lost or unknown family members.
I would like to acknowledge and express my sincere appreciation to all of the wonderful medical teams that cared so much for Marilyn over the past few years. Dr. Ron Oda, Dr. Leena Hajra, Dr. Sahgal, Dr. Perry and Dr. Lipsman, and so many at Markham-Stouffville Hospital. These doctors always listened, offered solutions and took urgent action – giving Marilyn constant hope to continue fighting. I would also like to thank all of the extremely kind and compassionate nurses, PSWs, doctors and volunteers at the Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry for caring for Marilyn with respect and dignity at the end of her journey.
In lieu of flowers, we would sincerely appreciate a donation in Marilyn’s memory to Markham-Stouffville Hospital or Oak Ridges Hospice.
Marilyn’s life was marked by her dedication to her family and friends and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Marilyn will be resting at McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road in Ajax. Visitation: Monday, September 30th from 4-8pm. Funeral Service: Tuesday, October 1st from 11-12noon. Refreshments: 12-2pm. Interment at Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens Cemetery: 2:30pm.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone.
Part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
