Peacefully, at home, with family by his side on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Judy for 49 years. Loving Dad of Brian (Michelle), Grant (Margaret), Lorne (Deb), and Troy (Jackie). Cherished Gpa and Grandpa of Amanda (Mike), Danny (Kelly), Shandelle (Louis), Maverick (Kirsten), Jake, Luke, Samantha (Rob), Travis, Jessica (John), Seth, Riley, and the late Nathan. Great-Grandpa of 9. Dear brother of Harold (Evelyn) and the late Ada “Honey”. Wes will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, especially his morning coffee crew and the Old Boys Club.

Wes enjoyed travelling, especially to the trailer at his summer property in Quadeville, where he enjoyed looking at the lake. A special thank you to the first responders that came to the home for their care and compassion.

Joan Lydia Cook

Passed Away on 5-Jan-2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Lydia Cook on January 5, 2025, at the age of 97. Joan was the loving wife of Norman Cook (deceased-2013) and much-loved mother to William and Robert (Irene). She was a proud Grandmother to Jordan and Taylor (Justin) and Great Grandmother to Remy and Weslie.

Joan was a lifelong resident of Oshawa and a lifelong member of St. Stephens United Church until its closing in 2022, at which time she joined Columbus Community United Church. Joan will be fondly remembered for her volunteer work, her wisdom, kindness, and the love she shared with family and friends. Her presence brought joy to all who knew her, and her memory will continue to inspire us.

Special thanks to her niece, Roberta Nesbitt, best friend Joan Buchanan, and the staff at AgeCare Samac.

Ryan Andrew Arsenault

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ryan Andrew Arsenault. He passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2025, at Kingston General Hospital at the age of 38, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Ryan leaves behind his beloved son, R.J., his parents, Roy and Diane (nee Smith) Arsenault, his sister, Shannon Cowan (Michael), his nephews, Daron and Damon, his extended family, and a wide circle of friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. Ryan cherished his family and friends deeply, treasuring every moment spent with them.

Professionally, Ryan was a skilled framer and carpenter, finding great joy in creating with wood. He was also an exceptional drummer, a true artist who poured his soul into every beat. Ryan’s passion for music and his infectious rhythm brought joy to many, forming lasting bonds through his drumming. His presence in any band or jam session will never be forgotten.

A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at McIntosh-Anderson-Kellam Funeral Home Ltd., 152 King Street E., Oshawa (905-433-5558). A memorial service will take place in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Verna Rowat. Late Friday night on January 3, 2025, with family by her side at Lakeridge Health Port Perry, we said goodbye. Verna will be greatly missed by her devoted husband, companion, and best friend of 62 years, Gerald. Loving son, Robson and wife Cindy, treasured grandchildren Sarah, Gerald, and great-grandchildren Zayden, Joel, and Maria. She is welcomed with open arms by her loving daughter Lea (November 2024).

Also left to mourn, Verna leaves behind her sister Bernice Arthur and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly. She was a woman who would do anything for her family, sharing her home and heart with everyone she loved.

Ross James Penton Nisbet

In Loving Memory

In loving memory of Ross James Penton Nisbet, who passed away at the age of 81 on Monday, December 30, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Toronto and raised in St. Catharines, Ross excelled in sports, playing football and basketball in high school before attending Dalhousie University in Halifax, where he met his beloved wife, Janet. Together, they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage.

Ross’s love of sports continued throughout his life as he played slow-pitch baseball, enjoyed golf, and cheered on his children in their athletic pursuits. He balanced his passion for sports with a successful career in human resources at Texaco, Imperial Oil, and later Honda, often commuting from the Durham Region to Toronto.

Ross was also a skilled handyman, often found working on home renovations or improving the family property at Sheffield Lake. He is survived by his wife Janet, children Lindsay (Adam), Carmen (Raphael), and Jamie (Heather), and cherished grandchildren Alethea, Keara, Brody, and Gabriel. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
