NICHOLLS, Andrew Allan Nicholls

February 5, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Allan Nicholls, 43, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Heather (nee Dobbin) for 16 years, son of Margaret and the late John Nicholls, brother of Alison Dunn and her husband Ian and loving uncle to Lauren, Kaitlin, Abigail and Henry. Andrew was the son-in-law of Bill and Sue Dobbin and brother-in-law of Geoff and Brenda Dobbin. He will be missed by his aunts, especially Ruth and Nancy Nicholls, his uncles and many cousins.

Andrew was an avid sports fan. He loved hockey and played on a variety of teams in his youth. Andrew learned to golf at the Oshawa Golf Club and competed across Canada and in the US, culminating with being ranked the #2 junior golfer in Canada. He won a number of prestigious tournaments as well as playing on the Ontario Team in the Canadian Juniors Boys’ Championship. He went to Kent State on a golf scholarship where he met his future wife Heather who was playing on the Women’s Golf Team. Golf continued to be a big part of Andrew’s life, and he enjoyed playing with his father, father-in-law and many friends.

Andrew graduated from Trent University, majoring in Political Science. He then earned his law degree at Queens University. He went on to become a proud and dedicated partner of Waterous Holden Amey Hitchon LLP in Brantford where he worked as a Family Law lawyer for 17 years.

Andrew loved spending time at the cottage on Long Point. This is where he developed his newfound love of boating, especially on quiet mornings with his wife, Heather.

Andrew was known for his quick wit, amazing general knowledge and debating skills. He was the event planner and life of the party. Andrew maintained many life-long friendships, always cherishing those close to him with his larger-than-life personality. He loved spending time with his three nieces and was thrilled when his nephew “Hank” came along. They will dearly miss him, as will many others, most of all his wife and best friend, Heather.

Special thanks to Dr. Acosta, Dr. Sibbald and the entire Cardiac Care Unit at Hamilton General Hospital for their care and compassion. Thanks also to family, friends and colleagues for their support during this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The details will be available on the Toll Funeral Home website.

Donations in Andrew’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Mark Preece Family House in Hamilton or a charity of your choice.
