GAMBLE, Fergus William Gamble - March 18, 1949 – September 6, 2024
Fergus Gamble died on September 6, 2024 following decline related to Alzheimer’s disease. Born March 18, 1949, to parents Adrian and Cicilia Gamble in England, arriving earlier than expected in a rare blizzard. Shortly afterward his family emigrated to Canada in May of that year, arriving by boat on the RMS Empress of France. He and his family lived first in Richmond hill, then Willowdale and then finally settling in Toronto, Ontario where he grew up.
Fergus attended Crescent School, Upper Canada College and Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute. Fergus graduated from Ryerson Polytechnic (now Toronto Metropolitan University) in 1971. Fergus met his wife of 45 years, Susan Gamble (nee Adams), who had just emigrated from England, through her sister Jill (who was employed by Fergus’s father) and they quickly became a pair. Fergus and Susan married in 1971 and had their first child, son Thane in 1973, and their second child, daughter Megan in 1976. They lived in Bayview Village until after their retirement, moving to Ballantrae retirement community. His wife Susan sadly passed in 2017 following several bouts of cancer. Thane is married to his wife Jennifer Murphy, Thane is proud father to Fergus’s grandson Owen Gamble, and step father to Owen and Brenna W. Megan is married to her husband Paul and they have two sons Noel, and Reid. Fergus is also survived by his two sisters Frances Darlington and Irene Ferguson.
Fergus and Susan worked in the market research field together for many years and then helped form their own company Vantage Research, which then merged with another colleague to become Dadson Vantage and this evolved into Radix Market Research which they sold upon their retirement.
Fergus was an avid fan of classical music, being involved in the Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra for many years, and the game of golf which he has played at courses all over Ontario, the United States and the United Kingdom. He also enjoyed many years of scuba diving in the Caribbean. Fergus and his wife enjoyed travelling together, and were proud of visiting all seven continents in their journeys all over the world. Fergus has had a life-long love of cars, tools and fixing things. Fergus had a great interest in world events and politics and enjoyed discussing these at length and reading about the world and important events in history.
Fergus will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
