JAMES, Michael James December 16, 1952 - May 9, 2025
JAMES, Michael James

The story of Michael James’ life was one of joy, compassion, and quiet strength. On May 9th, 2025 that beautiful chapter came to a close, leaving behind a legacy of love.

Michael first and foremost loved his family. A husband to Susan, a father to Tyler, brother to Janine and Uncle to Grant, Krista, Kim, and Dylan. Predeceased by his mother Marion and his father Norman.

Michael loved his friends. Many of them he met growing up in the Beaches area of Toronto, where he played both hockey and baseball. Many also got to know Michael from the world of golf. When Michael was a teenager, he took a job working at Donalda Golf and Country Club in Toronto. It was there that, under the guidance of his mentor Bob Ure, that he would develop a love for the game of golf. It was also there that he met so many of his lifelong friends.

Michael also loved his business. After working at Donalda, he became an entrepreneur, owning a bar, a driving range, and finally- he was the sole founder of Goliath Golf Group Inc. It was through Michaels intelligence, determination, and creativity that Goliath grew to become one of the most respected brands in the industry. One colleague of Michaels at Goliath once quipped, “I’ve never met anyone else who could turn one dollar into two dollars like Mike James.” His dedication to Goliath brought him all over North America, rubbing shoulders with the most famous names in the world of golf.

But it wasn’t just Michael’s business acumen that made Goliath a success. The business also provided jobs and opportunities to countless people. Michael went out of his way to put his employees and shareholders first. All who did business with Michael knew that he was the key to Goliath’s success.

Much like George Bailey, he may never have fully realized just how many lives he touched. But we knew.

Finally, Michael loved the Beach Boys. On Friday morning, the last thing Michael heard before entering heaven were the loving words of his family by his side, and the melodies from the band he loved the most…”God Only Knows”.

Throw on your “purp”, pop your collar, and ring a bell. An angel just received his wings.
