YOURTH, Ross Valentine - (WW2 Veteran Royal Canadian Army)
On Monday, September 4, 2017, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, Ross passed peacefully from this life.
Ross is survived by his loving wife Violet of 68 years, son Ronald (Karen), daughter Lorraine (Nigel), and by their dear friend who was like a daughter, Nancy Jackson (Dave).
Also remembered by his niece Judy Gabrielli and nephew Rick Alford and sister-in-law Marie Alford.
He will be missed by his 4 grandsons, Chris (Christina) and Kevin Yourth and Tristan and Peter Goddard, and his great-grandchildren Liam, Kayris, Soryn, Jasmya and Jaden.
For 25 years Ross was a faithful employee of what was then known as Oshawa General Hospital as a Stationary Engineer. He was greatly respected among his peers and truly enjoyed his years as an employee of O.G.H.
His all time favourite passion was photography, for which he was extremely gifted. Their home was graced with many of his own works, all framed by himself.
After retirement Ross and Vi became avid long distance hikers and joined a hikers club which took them hundreds of kilometers along the Ganaraska and Bruce Trails 3 times, coast to coast from Canada to England several times.
This adventure eventually lead them to Alaska and Yukon where, with 85 lbs of supplies on their backs, they hiked the Chilkoot Trail. It was on the Nahani adventure that they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
It soon became evident that a move was necessary so on March 5, 2016, Ross and Vi moved to Harmony Hills Retirement Community where they lived for 18 months.
The family is extremely grateful for the care he received at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa for 3 months, and also to the wonderful staff of Hillsdale Estates for the 6 short days Ross was a resident. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbours.
Relatives and friends may call at McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King Street East, Oshawa, Ontario (905-433-5558) on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 2:00 p.m., until the time of Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m.
Donations in memory of Ross to Alzheimer Society of Durham Region or any children’s CHARITY of your choice would be appreciated.
