Carol Ann Smith (née Edwards)
June 16, 1939 - November 11, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Ann Smith (née Edwards) on November 11, 2024, at the age of 85. Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully at Meaford Long Term Care Home, surrounded by love.
Born in South Porcupine, Ontario, to William and Isobel Edwards, Ann married her high school sweetheart, Peter Ronald Smith, on June 22, 1962. They shared 62 years of marriage and 69 years of friendship, building a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Ann is survived by her loving husband, Peter, and her daughters: Lisa, Kirsti (Julius Horvath), Julie (Graeme Eastmure), and Michelle (Craig Dickie). She was a proud grandmother to Tim (Hannah), Melanie, Brian, Katelyn, Christopher, Allyson (Keegan), Megan, and Leah, and a doting great-grandmother to Emerson. Ann will be dearly missed by her siblings, Susan Marshall (Victor) and William "Billy" Edwards (Debby), along with numerous extended family members and friends.
A graduate of the University of Toronto in Physical and Occupational Therapy, Ann began her career at SickKids, Women’s College, and North York General Hospitals before joining her husband at Smith’s Pharmacy, where they pioneered innovations in compounding and natural health. Her passion for caregiving and helping others defined her career and touched countless lives.
Ann and Peter’s life together was rich with shared adventures, from summers on Georgian Bay at 12 Mile Bay to winters skiing at Alpine Ski Club. They later built their dream home on Georgian Bay near Thornbury, creating a family haven filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Ann’s love for her family was boundless, and her nurturing spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Despite facing Alzheimer’s in her later years, Ann’s strength, grace, and humor shone through, leaving a lasting legacy of love.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at a later date. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Meaford Long Term Care Home for their compassionate care.
