COLICCHIA, Ernesta (nee SELLAN) -
August 22, 1922 – November 12, 2023
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Ernesta (Sellan) Colicchia announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Greater Niagara General Hospital, in her 102nd year.
Ernesta was the cherished wife of the late Gabriel Colicchia (July 29, 2023), devoted mother of Frank (Paula), beloved Nonna of Danielle (Jason van Veghel-Wood), and Jennifer, and a beloved and devoted bisnonna to Benjamin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Giosue and Albina; and siblings, Giuseppe, Elia, Angelina, Maria, and Giovanna.
Ernesta, along with her son Frank, immigrated to Canada from Italy in December 1951 to reunite with Gabriel, who had arrived earlier that year. Within two years, the young family acquired their first home on Dynevor Avenue in Toronto.
In 1971, after several relocations, Ernesta and Gabriel settled at 3650 Paddock Road in Pickering, where they resided for over 50 years.
Ernesta found joy in her Pickering property, hosting picnics, nurturing her beautiful garden, and stocking her freezer for the seasons, generously sharing the harvest with her family and friends. In 2022, Ernesta and Gabriel moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake to be closer to family, embarking on a new chapter in their lives.
A skilled seamstress, Ernesta's "magic fingers" fashioned and altered numerous outfits for family and friends over the years. She also relished her annual trips to Acapulco with friends from across Canada, maintaining these friendships throughout the years. Ernesta will be deeply missed by family and friends in Canada, Italy, and Mexico.
A private family service and cremation have already taken place, with a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
