McCANN, William (Jack) Dr. William (Jack) McCann - died on July 28, 2024, at home in Huntsville, Ontario, in his 75th year.
He was born on October 23, 1949, in Athens, Greece, to Margaret and Dr. Harry McCann.
He leaves his beloved wife, Katie; their two daughters, Megan (Jennie) and Allie (Rob); and grandchildren, Storey, Marlo, Edison, and Taiga.
Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Jack pursued a career in medicine. He graduated from the medical school of Trinity College, Dublin, and came to Canada to complete his internship at North York General Hospital in Toronto.
He went on to qualify as a radiologist at the Toronto General Hospital, with part of his training in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Frank Henry offered Jack a position at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in 1980, which he gladly accepted. Jack went on to dedicate his entire career to SMMH, spending over 38 years in practice there.
He particularly appreciated the constancy and support of the medical imaging staff who made his work a pleasure.
He met his wife, Katie, on a sailboat in Lake Muskoka, and they married three months later. They were best friends for 43 years and shared a love of history, politics, music, and family.
Jack retired in 2018 and moved to Peninsula Lake in Huntsville. After the pandemic, Jack and Katie began to travel to the United States and England on a frequent basis to visit their daughters and grandchildren. Jack was thoroughly enjoying his life at the time of his death, and this is a blessing for which his family will be eternally grateful.
