Claude Ward
April 21, 1953 – December 1, 2024
It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the passing of Claude Ward on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in Atikokan, Ontario, at the age of 71. Born on April 21, 1953, in Timmins, Claude was the son of Edgar and Armande (Girouard) and one of eight siblings. He grew up in Atikokan and lived a life full of love, music, and adventure.
Claude was a dedicated father to Steven (Laura) and Aaron (Cheryl) and a loving partner to Shelley Dion. He cherished his large family, including his sisters Lorraine, Armande (Tibi), Denise, Carol, and Theresa, his brother Maurice (Moe), several grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Armande, his brother Lawrence, and several nieces and nephews.
Claude spent his early years in Atikokan, where family life on Highway 11B was challenging yet rewarding. He instilled a strong work ethic in his sons and enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and camping at Clearwater and Windigoostigwan Lakes. Professionally, Claude found fulfillment working at Atikokan High School, where he inspired students by introducing them to music, trades, and life guidance, remaining in touch with many of them over the years.
Later in life, Claude and Shelley built a life together, enjoying their "slice of paradise" at their log cabin on Nym Lake. Despite challenges in accessibility, they cherished their time there with music, crafts, and family gatherings until health circumstances required the sale of the cabin to a trusted friend. Claude’s love for music, particularly the guitar, was a constant source of joy throughout his life.
Cremation has taken place, and a gathering to share stories, music, laughter, and tears will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Atikokan General Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Everest Funeral Home, 299 Waverley Street, Thunder Bay. Online condolences may be shared at everestofthunderbay.com.
