At Waterloo Regional Health Network @ Midtown on Tuesday April 21, 2026 Carmen Buchenauer passed away at the age of 66.
Beloved wife of Robert with whom she celebrated 39 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Cody and Andrea (Birch) Buchenauer, Ben and Renee (Donaldson) Buchenauer. Loving grandmother of Jake Buchenauer and Pawma of Guinness and Ciri. Daughter of Eva (Schlottke) Huppke and partner Gunther Barz and father Otto Alexy who passed away on March 17, 1980. Daughter-in-law of Olga Buchenauer and John Buchenauer who passed away on May 9, 2024. Sister of Ingrid (Alexy) Ferrede, Dagmar (Alexy) Otto and Esther Alexy. Sister-in-law of Ron and Gina (Bing) Buchenauer, Perry and Belinda (Petzke) Buchenauer, Mike Ferrede, and Tom Otto. She will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Carmen worked as a paramedic with the Waterloo Region Paramedic Services for 34 years, retiring in 2016. She was awarded the EMS Exemplary Service Medal in 2010. As a dedicated paramedic, she spent a lot of time caring for others, a role that extended far beyond her work. She was the heart of her family, always showing up to help others with a quiet toughness and resilience, and offering all of her love and support in every moment.
Carmen loved spending time in her beautiful gardens. She loved to read, do yoga, watch the birds, look after her grandson Jake, and grand puppies Guinness and Ciri. Above all, she loved spending quality time with her boys and her family.
She took great pride in her home, keeping it immaculate and welcoming at all times. Cleaning was more than a routine for Carmen, it was an expression of care and love for the space and the people she loved most. These habits and values were passed on to her sons, who carry her example, spirit and grit with them every day.
Her love was shown through her presence. Those closest to her knew her as a constant, because she could always be counted on. She had a quiet way of always being there for those she loved. Whether in big moments or small everyday ways, she showed up without hesitation with an open heart, and unwavering care and thoughtfulness for those who meant the most to her.
A visitation for close friends and family will be held on Monday April 27th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg. Final resting place at the Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg.
